Open Way is part of a world-wide network of communities inspired by the teachings and practices of Thich Nhat Hanh, a widely-known Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author and activist.

Join us for weekly mindfulness practice at our center in Missoula, Montana and for retreats and special events throughout the year.

Spiritual Leadership

Open Way is actively served locally by Dharma Teacher Rowan Conrad and OI Core Community Members AJ Johnston, Greg Grallo, David Maslanka, and Nicole Dunn. Rowan received Lamp Transmission from Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh in 2004.

These leaders are also well educated and experienced in the work-a-day world.

  • Eileen has a masters degree in biology/ecology with extensive work as a field biologist.
  • Rowan has a Ph.D. in counseling and trained counselors at the University for a decade.
  • Greg and AJ each have master’s degrees (in Environmental Studies and Theology respectively.)
  • David is a Ph.D. who earns his living as a classical composer.
  • Nicole founded and manages Earth Folk, an on-line source for ecologically produced earth-friendly products. She founded and leads Be Here Now, Open Way Mindfulness Center’s "Monday Sangha".
